  • Thank you so much for this post. I too "stumbled" upon this upgrade plugin but I was sure it wouldn't work on GoDaddy. Honestly I was afraid I would screw something up. But after reading your post I'm going to give it a try.
  • Good tip. After backing up Wordpress, I am going to give this a try! Thanks for the help and I hope that it works well. As you said, Godaddy did help me setup Wordpress but I am not on my own.
  • If above doesn't work, try this. This is the last option upgrade.

    1) Back up Wordpress MySQL DATABASE!
    2) Delete all Wordpress files in directories, except "wp-content" folder & contents within that folder!!!
--Once all set, wait about 15 minutes for GoDaddy to refresh--
    3) Setup new MySQL database for the new Wordpress you're about to install.
    4) Reinstall Wordpress from scratch. Do not restore/import the MySQL Database yet!
    5) Setup Wordpress options, (ie previous theme, update & activate plug-ins, PERMALINK SETTINGS)
--Once all set, wait about 15 minutes for GoDaddy to refresh--
    6) Restore MySQL Database into the new database (step #3)
  • I've been with GoDaddy hosting for 2 years now and they've been great. Server uptime has been 99.8% and speeds are incredible. Rarely have I used their support system, when I do response times vary from 1 - 7 hours which is great.
  • Thanks, I've been looking for a step-by-step guide for upgrading wordpress on GoDaddy for quite some time now.
  • Yes the wordpress automatic update plugin is amazing, i use it on all my wordpress blogs. If simplifies things so much!
  • I personally hate Godaddy for hosting, Cpanel is the only way to fly.
  • I use the plugins too, but I don't use godaddy hosting anymore
  • Wow that was pretty easy, I kind of hate how they run their business but thanks for this, it was real easy.
  • Nice and clean explanation, thanks. Sometimes upgrading Wordpress can be very tricky and desesperating !
  • Why you don't use zirona plugin, without hassle, upgrading wordpress is very smooth :D
  • You have got it easy with GoDaddy. With 1and1, you have to include an ini file to upgrade to php5 and also add another file to the wp-admin folder. it ends up working fine after that, but we shouldn't have to mess with all that!
  • im getting intrested in godaddy and using wordpress ,thanks for the step by step guide,it might prove helpful
